Assistant Professor Gerassimos Orkoulas received the 2008 Northrop Grumman Excellence in Teaching Award from the UCLA School of Engineering and Applied Science.
Professor Panagiotis Christofides has been selected to receive the 2008 Outstanding Young Researcher Award from the CAST Division of AIChE in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the computing and systems technology literature.
The inaugural Nobe Lecture in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering was held on May 23, 2008. The lecture was given by Gregory Stephanopoulos, Bayer Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Professor James Liao has been selected by the Society for Industrial Microbiology (SIM) for their 2008 Charles Thom Award "in recognition of those individuals who have made one or more outstanding research contributions in industrial microbiology and/or biotechnology.

Prof. Yoram Cohen received the Rosenfield Distinguished Community Partnership Prize (February2008). The prize program is designed to publicly recognize ongoing or one-time collaborations between UCLA faculty, or staff and community residents or non-profit organizations that have already enhanced the quality of life in Southern California .
